Yesterday the Year 1s of Cronton C of E Primary School learnt all about printmaking, with the theme 'Brazilian Carnival' (in preparation for their upcoming learning about Brazil over the next few terms). I taught them about Mono Printing, Collograph Printing (low level printing) & Relief Printing.
The children made their own collographs and then printed them onto paper (for their art files) and also printed them onto paper feathers which were added to Pippa the Parrot (which will be displayed somewhere in the school).
The children did some relief printing onto carnival masks with different textures, which they later decorated to be photographed with Pippa parrot. They also did some mono printing onto paper, also for their art files. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the children this year & I look forward to seeing the photographs of them wearing their masks.
Before we ended the day, the children decided on a name for their parrot, suggestions included; Polly, Pepper, Puppy, Peter, Patrick, Penny, Pippa, Popcorn and lots more ...
We narrowed it down to 3;
> Pepper
> Pippa
> Penny
The majority decided Pippa would be the name for the class parrot, which was then followed by a class photo with Pippa.
The making of Pippa Parrot (behind the scenes)
I thought I'd post a few photos of the making of Pippa Parrot, if you look closely at the tail of the first paper model you can see the original drawings of the design.
